LMYB Advisory Board
Linn-Mar Youth Baseball is affiliated with but not part of the Linn-Mar Community School District.
LMYB’s affairs are managed by a separate Advisory Board responsible for overall policy and direction to implement the organization’s mission of providing an opportunity for students in the Linn-Mar School District, or children of employees of the Linn-Mar School District, to play competitive baseball and prepare and develop for the high school baseball program.
The Board is comprised of members serving voluntarily, without pay, contributing considerable time in addition to other commitments. Most have full time jobs, family commitments, kids engaged in multiple activities, and coach or assist with LMYB teams as well. The LMYB Advisory Board has no paid staff.
LMYB Advisory Board Responsibilities:
- Identifying and screening candidates, and filling coaching vacancies
- Coach and player development
- Player registration, tryouts, and team formation
- Indoor and outdoor facility arrangements, enhancements, and maintenance
- Indoor and outdoor practice scheduling and coordination
- Equipment inventory, maintenance, and purchase
- Coach and parent communications
- Sponsors and potential sponsors communications
- School District collaboration and communication
- Website, X, and Facebook updates
- Apparel store logistics, support, and oversight
- Tournament logistics, support, and oversight
- Fundraiser logistics, support, and oversight
- Fiscal management and oversight of revenues and expenses
With 400 kids playing LMYB on nearly 40 teams and 800 or so engaged parents / guardians, serving on the Board is a challenging commitment, yet very rewarding in support of “the love of the game and the joy of youth.”
One LMYB graduate, recent High School baseball player, and recipient of LMYB’s first annual scholarship summarized best what the Board is continually striving for:
“Looking back, baseball has always been more than a game; it teaches the fundamental principles of life. Baseball taught me how to work through failures and the importance of a strong work ethic, even in times of adversity. Linn-Mar Youth Baseball was a staple in life throughout my youth. I met some of my best friends and coaches. Linn-Mar Youth Baseball will forever be part of who I am.”
